Mmh, you unchecked “Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks)” and still receive heaps of trackbacks? Well, unchecking this changes the trackback behavior only for new articles. Ha! If you want to apply it to all posts find your nearest phpMyAdmin, change into the wp_posts table and run this statement:
UPDATE wp_posts SET ping_status = “closed”
